At the beginning of the year, a friend made a $100 bet with me that I could not beat SPY for the Q2 with some systematic strategy.  The start date was quarterly op ex for Q1. I opened an account and bought QQQ. I just set it and forget it. My friends is now saying that this is not a systematic strategy and that I am just passively investing. My counter argument is that because I bought QQQ, it can not be passive. My act of buying was an active decision. Passive would be not making any trade. I have a simple strat. (1) Buy when I have money and shortly after the bet time window starts. (2) Sell at the end of Q2. Would you consider my strat active or passive?

He probably wanted to see a strategy that actively trades and the reasons behind it.
