But something changed that correlation:

"Over history, whenever earnings have risen like this, they have always brought interest rates up with them."

And that 'something' could be many (for me a few) of things: inflation (sovereign debt lvl), technological revolutions like AI, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, this chart doesnโ€™t show the correlation between interest rates and S&P 500 EPS during the 1970s and 1980s, which was also a period of high inflation in the U.S.

One thing to note about the inflation in the 70s and 80s is that a primary driver was the oil price in conjunction with a lack of domestic supply and infrastructure that was self-sustainable. Eastern hemisphere oil was need much more in the past. Now, we have higher oil prices but domestic infrastructure and supply are much more robust and self-sustaining.
